Social learning emotion

Definition

A social learning emotion is an emotion experienced by a learner tied to the social context of the learning, such as the presence of the explainer or other learners. Social learning emotions are closely tied to epistemic emotions and achievement emotions, but are different in that they are driven by the learner's thoughts about what the explainer and other learners are thinking.

Social learning emotions become more salient in contexts like class, one-on-one learning, office hours, and group learning, and less salient in the case of self-learning.

Examples of social learning emotions include humiliation.
