Definition

One-on-one tutoring, sometimes also called one-on-one coaching or personal coaching, is a learning context with a single explainer and a single learner in a synchronous environment (the explainer and learner are both spending a focused period of time together where both are focused on the explaining and learning).

Facts

Bloom's 2 sigma problem derives from educational psychologist Benjamin Bloom's empirical finding that one-on-one tutoring following mastery learning produced results two standard deviations better than conventional instructional methods.
